In April 2020, I became one of the first people in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, and one of the first in the United States, to be treated for COVID-19 at the Cleveland Clinic. My condition got bad fast: I spent eight days on a ventilator fighting for my life. The strong work of the healthcare team there, and a lot of prayer, pulled me through.
Before I left the ICU, I wrote a note to my caregivers on the window of my room. An excerpt:
“Today I leave this ICU a changed person, hopefully for the better, not only because of your medical healing and God’s direction and guidance, but with the fact of knowing that there are such wonderful people dedicated to the care and concern of others. God bless each of you.”
That note went semi-viral and turned into a small stream of press and media coverage, some of which is linked below.
